What is PMJAY (Ayushman Bharat Scheme)?

The Government of India’s major health insurance program, the Ayushman Bharat Scheme (PMJAY), offers complete coverage for secondary and tertiary hospitalization costs. The goal of this initiative is to help more than 12 crore vulnerable and disadvantaged families. Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is the new name for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, formerly known as the National Health Protection Scheme.

For the poorer segments of society, this aims to make secondary and tertiary healthcare entirely cashless. Beneficiaries of the PM Jan Arogya Scheme are issued an Ayushman card, which allows them to access services at any public or private hospital in the nation that has been accredited. You can benefit from the ability to enter a hospital and receive cashless care by using the PMJAY initiative.

What does the scheme offer?

Beneficiaries of this program would get ₹10 lakh in health insurance coverage. The governments of Delhi and the national government will each pay ₹5 lakh. For prompt implementation, the government strives to finish all paperwork as soon as possible.

“This program was stopped by the previous administration, therefore Delhi citizens were unable to take advantage of it. Ayushman Bharat, which Prime Minister Modi introduced for the whole nation, was not carried out here. It will now be accessible with a ₹5 lakh top-up from the Delhi government, Gupta stated.

Who will benefit?

  • Families with low incomes require free medical care.
  • Residents in Delhi were previously not eligible for the program.
  • Even if they don’t fulfill the income requirements, senior persons are now eligible for coverage.

What are the Eligibility criteria of PMJAY for rural and urban?

Rural households:

  • Families without land rely mostly on laborious, part-time labor to make ends meet.
  • households with no adult male family members between the ages of 16 and 59.
  • households living in single-room homes made of unbaked mud or other non-durable materials.
  • families without an able-bodied adult to provide support and with at least one impaired member.
  • households that are part of communities of Scheduled Tribes (ST) or Scheduled Castes (SC).

Urban households:

  • Street vendors
  • Domestic workers
  • Sanitation workers
  • Construction laborers

Delhi Cabinet approves Ayushman Bharat scheme

The national capital’s Ayushman Bharat health insurance program was authorized for implementation by the recently appointed Delhi Cabinet. Each recipient would receive a total of Rs 10 lakh in health coverage under this program, with Rs 5 lakh coming from the Centre and Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government.

“The Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi had been stalled by the previous government,” Rekha Gupta remarked during her maiden news conference as Delhi Chief Minister. We’ve authorized it for Delhi after Prime Minister Narendra Modi implemented it nationwide,” she added. “The implementation of the scheme will start as soon as the formalities are finished.”

At its first meeting, the Gupta-led Cabinet approved two of its agenda items, according to PTI. The discussion also covered the Mahila Samriddhi Yojna, which offers qualified women in Delhi monthly support of Rs 2,500. Further conversations are necessary, according to Gupta, because payments to the beneficiary women cannot be provided until an application registration system is in place. “We discussed where and how to use these monies, but more conversation is required. Later on, this will be finalized,” she stated.

To increase accountability and transparency, the Cabinet also agreed to bring 14 outstanding reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) before the Delhi Assembly’s next session.
